Happy-Happy Birthday

6 years ago our beautiful daughter Lana was born. She’s an incredible girl that is so very precious and has given us perspective and refined our purpose.

3 years ago fickleZeal was founded because of her very influence in our lives. Our hope is to capture and share the beauty of our clients. Because of Lana there will always be a special place in our business for photographing people with Down Syndrome and all types of Special Needs.

With each session we become more determined to share their value and beauty. We thank all of clients for a wonderful 3 years! Here’s to MANY more!;)

The above photograph is of Lana on her first day of life.  My sister Sabrina captured it in the hospital as we waited for the results from the many tests that were taken.  Our eyes were swollen nearly shut as we processed the news of her diagnosis of Down Syndrome.  I remember the moment Sabrina snapped this shot of  Lana, but even more memorable is when she presented it to me in a frame on Lana’s Sixth day of life… still in the hospital.  This is the moment that I gained so much!  I was able to forget the many dreadful things that the doctors filled my worrying soul with.  I was able to stop worrying about the superficial nonsense and instead focus on the fact that she was just like any other child born that day .  She was a precious baby that needed support, advocacy, and most importantly love.  It is then that I realized why I was so sad by people telling us “I’m sorry!” when they heard about Lana..  There was nothing to be sad about.  I mean really, I had a beautiful baby in my arms.  One that would profoundly challenge our perspective and refine our purpose in beautiful ways.

I held this photograph tightly and knew that I had just received the most beautiful physical gift that anyone had ever given me.  That one “picture” moved me in so many ways and continues to today.  I knew then that I finally needed to become a photographer so that I could share this intense feeling of love and acceptance with all those that are willing to receive it.

Today we celebrate Lana’s 6th birthday and fickleZeal’s 3rd!  Each year we will continue to grow older together and thrive with love!

The Tipps Family /// Denton Texas

It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since I had the privilege of meeting and photographing The Tipps Family. You may remember them from this post in 2009. We were connected through the Littlest Heroes Program, currently known as Inspirations Through Art.  (If you are a professional photographer I highly encourage you to check out Inspirations Through Art to see if it’s something that speaks to you. It’s truly a wonderful non-profit organization to get involved with.)

The Tipps have been through their share of health scares and emergencies with Landon, but they keep smiling.  They keep loving & as you will see in this post they keep moving.  Moving each other… And while they are united and on the move, they are changing lives by moving all that are so lucky to know them and witness their sincere kindness and strength!

Landon’s trials may seem like mountains to climb, however with his resilience and support from his family he’ll climb high in life!

Such a fun and sweet family!  LOVE!

There’s no greater love than a love shared together!  David and Wendi’s dedication to their families happiness is truly inspiring!

Addison is just as her shirt (made by Mom) says, “SASSY”, but that’s far from it she’s sweet, loving, and as you can see, adorable.

We love that Landon naturally found the cool spots to hang out in!  He’s such a sweet and gentle boy!

And then there’s Houston.  He’s an incredible big brother that loves his family so much.  I love how adventurous he is yet willing to slow down to make sure his little brother and sister are included and taken care of.

Tipps Family, we are so thankful for the opportunity to capture your family and all that you are! XOXOXO! Till next time!
